Bracket has no accounts, no passwords and no email sign-ups. The short version: we keep just enough to run a fair daily game, and advertising on the site is provided by Google.
What stays in your browser
Bracket stores a few things in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device on their own:
- a random ID, so the game can tell today’s round is yours;
- the days you’ve finished, for your streak;
- the board name you chose, if you chose one, so your row can be highlighted;
- whether you’ve seen the how-to-play card, and whether sound is on.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it.
What our server keeps
When you play, we store that random ID alongside the puzzle number, the brackets you locked in, your scores and the times each question started. That is what enforces one round a day and the 25-second clock, and what lets us rank rounds against each other. It isn’t linked to your email or any account, because we don’t collect either.
If you put a name on the all-time board
Choosing a name is optional — you can play without one. If you do, we store the name alongside that same random ID, and it appears publicly on the all-time board with your total points, number of rounds and best round. Pick something that isn’t your real name if you’d rather stay anonymous.
Your IP address is used briefly to stop any single connection flooding the game with requests; the game itself doesn’t store it. Like any website, our hosting and database providers (Vercel and Supabase) may keep standard server logs.
Fonts
The site’s typefaces load from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google’s servers to fetch them.
Advertising
Bracket shows ads through Google AdSense to help pay for running the game. In doing so:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ad Settings, and opt out of many third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before any personalised ads are shown, through Google’s own consent message. You can read more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Children
Bracket is a general-audience game and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
You can clear your browser storage at any time, which disconnects you from any past results and any board name.
Changes
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it, and the date above is updated.
